Saf-T-Liner® C2 Lift Door: Safer by Design

The American school bus is the safest vehicle on the road. Many safety features have been added over the years that were not there “in the good ol’ days!” Options such as push out emergency windows, large wheelchair lifts, and roof escape hatches are now common place.

If you’ve ever been on one of my Thomas Built Buses plant tours, you understand why the Saf-T-Liner® C2 is stronger and safer than other buses. The lift door design is one such feature that makes the Saf-T-Liner® C2 stronger and safer. Here’s why:

  • From its beginning, the Saf-T-Liner® C2 was a complete redesign of the Type C bus with today’s options in mind. This includes extra-large wheelchair lifts and lift doors.
  • Take a close look at the lift door on a C2. The top of the lift door is at the same height as the top of the passenger windows.
  • The C2 lift door is designed into the bus below the roof headers so the normal structural integrity of the bus is uninterrupted. This design allows dual continuous structural headers to span the entire length of the bus (one inner/one outer on each side of the bus) – above the passenger windows and lift door – for added strength and safety. ALL the roof bows are joined together for added strength in the event of a rollover.
  • The roof line of the Saf-T-Liner® C2 is clean and sleek compared with other buses. The result of this sleek structural design is a stronger and safer bus.

The Thomas-engineered lift door is just one of the many features that makes the Saf-T-Liner® C2 stronger and safer by design.
